Future Ex-Democrats

Obama gained his margin of victory in large measure by enlisting the support of the disengaged, the disaffected and those too young to know better. Voters under 30 -- who weren't yet in high school when Bill Clinton was elected -- went for Obama by a 2-to-1 margin. Many of these young Obama supporters will be among the first to feel the shock of discovering how wide is the chasm that separates their Hope from any Change that Obama can actually accomplish.
Already, their disillusionment is beginning, the Internet rumbling with discontent as Obama staffs his administration with Washington insiders, Clinton cronies and even, perhaps, Hillary Clinton herself. Many more will be disheartened to discover that there is no magic in Obama's economic plan, a patchwork of warmed-over Keynesian "pump-priming" claptrap as stale as the memory of Hubert Humphrey.
What I don't understand though is why anyone thinks that getting these people to vote Republican will accomplish anything. These are the very same gullible fools who bought in to George W. Bush's "Compassionate Conservative" idiocy. These are the 40% of so-called Republicans who abandoned the war on terror and decided that we needed to pull out of Iraq. A few years of no attacks and they cannot make the connection between fighting against the Islamo-fascists and the Islamo-fascists not attacking America. They want us to abandon the war, allow a huge victory to our enemies, slink home, and "hope" they leave us alone.
These people are not committed to freedom. They are so stupid they think that socialism is Utopia. Getting the rude awakening that socialism is not the answer will not cure them of their delusions. The last thing we need is for them to come vote Republican, not until they have grown up enough to love freedom.
Disillusion with Obama is not going to get them to that point in political maturity. When they have stopped looking for a free ride and reach the point of loving freedom for themselves ... and others, then we could use their votes.
