High-stakes In Syria

by Charles Krauthammer - September 21st, 2007 - Townhall.com

WASHINGTON -- On Sept. 6, something important happened in northern Syria. Problem is, no one knows exactly what. Except for those few who were involved, and they're not saying.

We do know that Israel carried out an airstrike. How then do we know it was important? Because in Israel, where leaking is an art form, even the best informed don't have a clue. They tell me they have never seen a better-kept secret.

More and more evidence is pouring out of Syria and Iran that a nuclear attack on Tel Aviv is not some pipe dream of the Islamofascists. It is strategy that rogue states in the Middle East are working to assure comes to fruition in the near term. Americans need to pay attention because the attack on Tel Aviv is a pre-cursor to the main strategy, nuclear attack on America.

This article is more speculation than fact. Even Charles acknowledges that no one knows for sure what is going on. However smoke is a good sign of a fire and no one who knows the Middle East can deny that there is smoke.

The best sign is that Israel is keeping its secrets. When a democracy starts keeping secrets, like America did during World War II, it indicates that they really do believe they are at war. No one in America is keeping secrets yet. That is because a very large part of our population still don't think we are at war.
