Bob Dole Blasts McClellan And His Book

by Staff - May 30th, 2008 - Newsmax.com

"In my nearly 36 years of public service I've known of a few like you. No doubt you will 'clean up' as the liberal anti-Bush press will promote your belated concerns with wild enthusiasm…

“Another thought is to weasel your way back into the White House if a Democrat is elected. That would provide a good setup for a second book deal in a few years."

Dole told McClellan that he won't read his book and added: “If all these awful things were happening, and perhaps some may have been, you should have spoken up publicly like a man, or quit your cushy, high profile job."

Though Bob Dole's criticism was severe, it was still done with class, something that McClellan has not shown. It reminds me of why I will always consider Bob Dole the best man who has ever run for President. He may not have been the best candidate, he may not even have been a good President if he had won. He still would have been the best man.

I remember the stories told by his nurses during WWII, who admired his sense of humor and good spirits while he lay for a year in a hospital bed recovering from horrible wounds that would have destroyed most men. Bob Dole came back from his wounds to become the longest serving Minority leader in Senate history. And then the longest serving Majority leader too.

No one has led one of our major parties for even close to the period that Bob Dole led Republicans. If he was still one of our party leaders now that we are in the 21st Century, I wonder if our party would have lost its way?

Bob Dole, I really miss you. Thanks for once again reminding us, politics can attract men of class.
