Glenn Beck’s Rally
by David Horowitz - August 31st, 2010 - Front Page Magazine
We all get used to things so quickly these days that we don’t reflect on how unthinkable a rally like the one staged on the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream” speech by talk show host Glenn Beck would have been as recently as two years ago. Outside the missionary environs of the pro-life movement you couldn’t have found ten people on the right – ten Republicans or ten conservatives — to march on Washington for a political rally. Marching in lock step would have seemed a collectivist act to them, almost unclean and something that only leftists and Democrats would do. The individualistic instincts of conservatives were admirable philosophically, but politically they put the cause of individual rights and the defense of the American republic at a severe disadvantage in the battles that had been joined with the collectivist left.
In one simple paragraph David Horowitz has summed up much of the reason for the precipitous collapse of America's belief in itself over the last two generations. The continuing refusal of Republican and conservative leadership to understand the Tea Party Movement is summed up in that paragraph as well. It is even the basis for the antipathy by Republican leadership for Sarah Palin.
"We don't do things like that!" "We don't say things like that!" "We aren't confrontational!" "We talk philosophically about our ideas, we don't go out and do anything about them!" "We are civilized!"
Well, with that attitude, there is one other thing that Republicans and conservatives were. They were losing our nation.
A whole lot of people suddenly realized with the election of Barack Obama, neo-communists were in control. You can call them progressive or socialist or liberal or fascist. It does not matter. They are all the same thing and right now they are running our government. In the process they are shocking a lot of people out of their complacency. It cannot happen here was an illusion that has been dispelled. It can happen here. It is happening here. Atheists in the ACLU, race-baiting hate mongers, union bosses who embrace international beliefs in redistribution of wealth, la razan racists who demand that parts of our nation be given to governments that did not exist when we pioneered them. We reject your lies.
A lot of patriotic Americans have decided that confrontation is needed. We are not afraid of media condescension any longer. We will not allow the oppression of politically correct left wing bigots to tell us again, "shut up." We have become indifferent to the hate mongers calling us racists when we are not. It is war.
We understand that now. We are making our own voices heard. We will go as far as needed to end the insanity of destroying the greatest nation of freedom that has ever existed. The battle is joined.
