Civilization Walking The Plank

by Mark Steyn - April 10th, 2009 - Orange County Register

The Reuters headline put it this way: "Pirates Pose Annoying Distraction For Obama."

So many distractions, aren't there? Only a week ago, the North Korean missile test was an "annoying distraction" from Barack Obama's call for a world without nuclear weapons and his pledge that America would lead the way in disarming. And only a couple of days earlier the president insisted Iraq was a "distraction" – from what, I forget: The cooing press coverage of Michelle's wardrobe? No doubt when the Iranians nuke Israel, that, too, will be an unwelcome distraction from the administration's plans for federally subsidized day care, just as Pearl Harbor was an annoying distraction from the New Deal, and the First World War was an annoying distraction from the Archduke Franz Ferdinand's dinner plans

If the incompetent management driving The New York Times from junk status to oblivion wished to decelerate their terminal decline, they might usefully amend their motto to "All The News That's Fit To Distract." Tom Blumer of Newsbusters notes that in the past 30 days there have been some 2,500 stories featuring Obama and "distractions," as opposed to about 800 "distractions" for Bush in his entire second term.

The bias (and bigotry) of our liberal ... oops that's progressive now ... press is so obvious that it is hard not to laugh. Or it would be if our nation was not being destroyed by this more than daily drumbeat of lies and "distractions". Anything that happens which Obama is going to screw up is a distraction. Anything.

Then again, he is such an amateur at foreign affairs that everything is a distraction. Our fellow citizens have elected a man who believes himself an expert at everything, even when he has never spent a single day studying the subject. Run a car company? No problem. I'll just fire the president of the largest car company in the world, a company that has been destroyed by my favorite political supporters, and we will show them how it is done by someone who is an amateur. Disarm our nation? No problem. We will just prove that the world is NOT a dangerous place and we will cancel all our high tech weapons and unilaterally disarm just like any other amateur would.

If anything Obama does bothers you well you must simply SHUT UP. After all, according to Obama, "I WON!"

Maybe so. However as Steyn notes in this article, government no longer has the will to do anything that requires courage. Obama does not even have the guts to kill four lightly armed pirates. Oh no, we must not violate their constitutional rights. The only people who are no longer defended by the constitution are American citizens, whose rights are daily stripped by corrupt politicians and judges who are distracted by such things as honor and pride. Obama has said he will monitor the situation. MONITOR IT. What ever happened to do something? [No one was more stunned than I when Obama did not stop our SEALS from saving the captain]
