Trade Gap Plunges

Feel Better Now?

Editorial - January 13th, 2009 - Investor's Business Daily

Virtually all economists agree: The more and freer trade, the better. Trade doesn't make us poorer; it makes us richer — a far cry from the misconceptions that pundits have been peddling, and most of the public has been buying, for years.

Define "most of the public" as liberals and I agree with that last sentence. Try and get a Democrat, or any other socialist minded bigot, to take a position and they will state this common misconception about trade. No matter how many studies prove the opposite, the ignorant continue to insist that their delusions are true. Examples abound that refute this misconception to those who are willing to listen to reason. The examples of the facts against the misconception listed in this article are recent examples. Many other examples exist though.

How about the fact that during huge periods in the 18th century, while America was growing into the most powerful economic country in the world, we ran huge trade deficits? How about the fact that from shortly after World War II until the early 1990s, Japan ran huge trade deficits while they grew into a economic power.

Trade deficits are a good thing. The popular opinion of union leaders and partisan bigots in the Democrat Party do not constitute proof that their misconceptions have any validity. The stubborn insistence on clinging to their misconceptions merely give proof that Democrats cannot be trusted with political power.

The FDR period was the worst depression in American history precisely because of the stupid actions of FDR. Yet he is adored by people who think he was some great savior. Every single rational assessment of his actions prove he prolonged the depression and deepened the damage and pain people endured. However try and explain that and Democrats simply plug their ears and humm the mantra, "nah nah nah nah nah ... I can't here you ... nah nah nah nah nah." Truth that conflicts with their Democrat misconceptions is rejected. Once again Obama is about to rule our nation based on these liberal misconceptions. I assure you, the liberal press will never allow his failures to be blamed on him.
