Liberals Love The Sin And Hate The Sinner

by Star Parker - September 7th, 2007 - News & Observer

Coverage by the mainstream media of the Larry Craig scandal confirms again that liberals love the sin and hate the sinner. They've got both the Idaho senator and the conservative values that he has supported in their crosshairs.

Perhaps it's relevant to take a moment and recall that the need for biblical guidance comes from the proclivity to sin. You don't need a map if you're hardwired to know where you're going.

But, for those on the left, a map isn't necessary because it doesn't matter where we are going. For them, a man going astray is proof that having a destination, and rules for getting there, is hypocrisy. The problem is not the fallen man but having rules to begin with.

It would follow from this that Conservatives Hate The Sin And Love The Sinner. That is pretty close to what God has told us we should do. However as much as I agree with Star Parker's assessment of what is wrong with the liberals inconsistency, Republicans are pretty abysmal at practicing Christian Charity. They never forgive any sin by a Republican. Why is that?

Though we don't have too much control over the sinners on the Democrat side and therefore can do little but bleat helplessly about their sins, we show no mercy to any Republican who shows signs of weakness. They don't even have to actually transgress and act on their sinful urges. Even being caught thinking about sinning will get you thrown out of the Republican Party. Look at Craig of Idaho. He is not a hypocrit for supporting hetorosexual marriage. He is married with children. There is no evidence he did anything but think about his apparent homosexual urges, but he did NOT act on them. Is this momentary weakness so unforgivable?

Republicans did the same thing to Newt Gingrich. He sinned. It did not impact his efforts for the party and no matter what you thought of him, he broke no law. I am not a Newt fan either. However the family values members of the Republican Party abandoned him and once again drove him from power. No forgiveness at all!

Think about this for a moment. We are all sinners. That is pretty well acknowledged every Sunday in every church. However if the family values wing of the Republican Party demands that no Republican can ever be forgiven, we might as well turn the country over to the socialists today. Do we really want that?

Only Democrats will be able to hold office since it is pretty obvious it is okay for them to sin! Why the double standard?
